PMS – Premenstrual Syndrome: often confused with Premenstrual Stress and even Premenstrual Symptoms.
Are they different?
Yes, they are! The difference is determined by the days that the symptoms occur prior to your next menstrual bleed. And you only have to experience one symptom…
10 most common symptoms that have been identified occuring in women prior to their period beginning.
- Breast Tenderness
- Food Cravings
- Crying easily
- Weight Gain
Differentiating between Premenstrual Symptoms and Premenstrual Syndrome comes down to when these symptoms first occur.
If they occur 1 – 3 days before your period, these symptoms are considered normal premenstrual symptoms.
If these symptoms occur 4 days or earlier before your period then it is considered to be premenstrual syndrome.
These symptoms can be debilitating and affect everyday life for women and their families. Treatment involves Progesterone replacement during the luteal phase of a woman’s cycle. But it has to be timed to the individual woman’s cycle.
How does Creighton Model and NaproTechnology work towards treating Premenstrual Syndrome?
By establishing the correct time to introduce bioidentical progesterone in the luteal phase of your cycle.
How do we do that?
We use a simple tool…..a chart.
A chart that records your most fertile sign of the day. A chart that becomes a diagnostic tool, for both the Practitioner and the Medical Consultant. Just as a cardiologist understands an ECG and treats accordingly, so do the Medical Consultant and the Creighton Model Practitioner.
A chart that enables progesterone levels in the luteal phase of your cycle to be established.
A chart that enables you to know the exact timing to begin your bio-identical progesterone replacement therapy.
A chart the enables you to time ongoing progesterone level monitoring.

Experiencing pain during your cycle or mid cycle is not normal and is usually symptomatic of something else which charting and other testing can get to the bottom of…
Irregular and Long Cycles
The most common reason for irregular and long cycles is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome – PCOS.
This is a complex syndrome and can seem to the woman who receives the diagnosis that achieving a pregnancy naturally is out of her reach. As ovulation occurs irregularly and not as frequently it thereby decreases fertility. Also, when ovulation does occur it is often abnormal.
Achieving a pregnancy naturally with Creighton Model and Naprotechnology does occur. IVF is not the only pathway for couples to achieve a pregnancy when a diagnosis of PCOS exists.
The aim is to treat the disease process and restore fertility.
Charting with the Creighton Model becomes a powerful tool for the Medical Consultant in the treatment and normalization of ovarian function. Once ovulation has returned, couples are then able to use their chart for fertility focused intercourse.
